Don Huffines is a former state senator and a former gubernatorial candidate that lost in the Republican primaries. Huffines is highly known for his promise to Texas voters that he would put end to property taxes in Texas. His new initiative, the Huffines Liberty Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that plans to educate and promote ideas of liberty and freedom through newsletters, seminars and op-eds according to Texas Scorecard. The website for the foundation states that it exists to promote individual rights, fiscal restraint, personal responsibility, limited government and social conservatism.
Huffines was in the Texas Senate from 2015, he is one of the most conservative lawmakers in Texas, authoring legislation that uncovered one of the largest government corruption scandals in Texas History. He is a true conservative that is aiming to hold politicians in check both Democrats and Republicans alike, especially with some Republicans choosing to play nice with the liberal Democrats abandoning their conservative voter base that elected them.
